Wot? Me? Worry?

Okay, I'll just fret a little from time to time, if that's all right.

Lovely. Comes down to don't click anything that comes in an email!

The reports seem to be a bit over-hyped, which makes me wonder if the folks doing the reporting are being overly dramatic or boasting.

I use Mailwasher, which is a great program. You can preview the message before it is downloaded onto your computer. You can choose to delete, bounce or mark as friend. I don't use the bounce because a lot of the emails are using fake accounts so it doesn't help. If I don't recognize the name it gets deleted without being downloaded. Another great way to combat spam is to block all images from being loaded until you click to allow. Once they are downloaded the recipient can tell if the address is good. It kills me that you have to go into stealth mode just to read some email. Most of mine is through my hotmail account just to make it easier.

Nowadays it's possible for a script to execute if you just read a message, even in the reading pane; however, Windows now has lots of watchdogs and most security things like Norton watch out for nasty things happening.

Windows Vista is even more watchdoggy than XP was. A lot of people have expressed annoyance with being constantly asked, "Do you want to do this?" But I rather like it.
