It's snowing!

I'm sure that it's meaningless to anyone who lives north of wherever north is, but hey! It's snowing in Houston! Two days ago, we had the air conditioner on!

Miros1 12-11-2008 04:16 AM

 Nice to know I aimed that huge snowball just right!

homerette 12-11-2008 04:55 AM

Two days ago we still had a little snow, and now we need the air conditioner, lol.

Miros1 12-11-2008 09:52 AM

< re-aims the giant snowball launcher >

Sorrrry!

Just passing overhead with a captured comet on the way to Luna! We need the water to fill Lake Mendell in Luna City.

I don't suppose the snow stuck to the ground for long though.

At the moment, it looks like it melted and froze again. Ick. Ice.

That is bad. All you need now is for it to snow on top of that.

Miros1 12-11-2008 05:14 PM

If that happens, replace the wheels on your car with tank treads.

Actually, just replace your car with a tank temporarily. It won't get damaged when the idjits that haven't driven in snow in ages, if ever, crash into it.

Greg 12-12-2008 12:07 AM

The final result was rather anti-climatic: The roads were dry when I had to drive to work this morning.

B'b'but... I DID get to see the Space Shuttle fly over today! :D

It's ferrying back to the Cape on the back of the 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft. After making a fuel stop in Forth Worth they flew down there and then back up to an air force base in Louisiana. They looped around Houston and made a low pass around the area, and then off again on their merry way.

Crystal 12-12-2008 04:11 PM

Wow!! Wow!! I never seen a space shuttle except on TV and you get to see it flying right over your house!! :blob7:

You're not the only one who got the rare snowfall. It snowed in NW Vegas today. All I got at home was an all day drizzle thankfully although rain is rare enough here where the idjits on the freeways make life interesting!

homerette 12-16-2008 05:08 AM

My friend's sister moved to South Vegas last year, and she's disappointed that she missed the snow. She's probably not sorry she missed the idjits.

I have vague recollection of seeing a spot of snow during one of the winters I lived in Las Vegas, but it didn't make it to the ground. I really liked the weather there. Dry is good. :D

It got warmer here for a day or two. Now it's cold and rainy again. By Thursday it will be back 75 degrees and sunny. This is Houston in the winter.

Ooh, I wish it where that warm here right now, but nope 20 degrees and a mix of ice and snow, yick. :(

I remember the midwestern winters well. It was a different life style when I lived in central Illinois, always having all that winter gear stored in the closet by the door. When I was a kid, snow was the coolest thing there ever was because I'd get to take my sled to Bradley Park and go sliding down the hills.

Hokieman 12-18-2008 03:14 PM

Well, it snowed big time (at least for here anyway - the news says it's the biggest snowfall since the late 70's) in Vegas yesterday. Getting home from work last night was an interesting experience to say the least although everybody played nice on the freeways. The south end of the valley got it worse this time and we had about 5 inches on the ground at my place. Freeways are pretty much clear this AM but the side streets are still a mess. Probably won't last long as the temp is supposed to go into the low 40's by lunchtime.

Greg 12-19-2008 12:30 AM

Yeah, I heard! The one time it snowed while I was in Las Vegas, most of the snowflakes sublimed into vapor before they even made it to the ground!

One of the gals from my office was planning to fly through Las Vegas on her way to Portland today. A Committee of Too Many gathered about the computer to try to find her an alternative route.

Miros1 12-19-2008 02:10 AM

We cancelled a doctor's appointment tomorrow because it would have meant driving through about 15 miles of whiteouts. Not fun!

Greg 12-19-2008 11:58 AM

Ick. I knew there was a reason I moved to the swamp!

Miros1 12-19-2008 01:56 PM

The national weather forecast shows Illinois vanishing into a whiteout. How's your sister doing?
