Cars as Sculptures

Nightlife Required

A set of 17 Maxis cars as decoration for parking lots.
These only occupy 1 tile so your sims will walk straight through them if you're not carefull to place them out of thier way. Many are visabe from neighbourhood view but not all.

Don't be fooled by the tiny file size, these are standard high poly. cars. I never place more than four on a lot.

Found in the catalogue under Decorative/Sculptures

Re-use Policy = Do anything you like with it, just keep it free.

Thanks! This makes car dealerships able to have some variety without all the cars being moved to the road every time the lot is saved.

Thanks, Chris! We can always use more cars! I have lots of parking lots to populate. How did you get the file size to come out so tiny?

I'm wondering if it's possible to recolor these. I looked at one in SimPE. The texture wasn't obvious, so I quickly reached the limit of what I know how to do.

Hmm... I could try recoloring one of the Maxis cars and see if it shows up as color opton for the sculpture.

Miros1 12-06-2008 01:14 PM

I suspect it will, Greg!

No sorry these aren't re-colourable, that's how the file size is so small they just refer to the Model (CRES) which refers to a default Material Definition via it's Shape (SHPE).
Generally you wouldn't want to use many of these because of the high poly count so only having a couple of different cars isn't really a problem. These can be done easily for any custom car though.

Greg 12-07-2008 02:07 PM

Thanks, Chris. Yup, I found that out the hard way. :)

It looks like if I want lots of variations on car colors, I'll have to recolor the buyable ones. It might be possible to create some smaller files by extracting the buyable cars from the game and turning them into sculptures that can serve as base objects.

Would that sculpture trick work for buyable cars too?

Chris Hatch 12-13-2008 12:01 PM

Yes it sure does, I did these a couple years ago and have no idea where the custom cars that I have came from so I didn't include any.

Miros1 12-13-2008 02:45 PM

So maybe we need a tutorial so we can hack our own collections?

Greg 12-13-2008 05:38 PM

Yup, that would be an excellent idea! Of course, if you want to decorate with full-poly-count cars, you can just use move_objects to place the regular cars wherever you want.

Chris Hatch 12-15-2008 02:33 PM

Default cars are not normally available on community lots and when you make them available and you visit the lot they usually move to the road and drive off.
Yes I can do a tutorial, I'm still working on one for default bodyshape replacements for you Miros1 (I didn't forget). I've been a little busy lately re-preparing and uploading my naughty stuff to a different adult site.

Miros1 12-15-2008 11:19 PM

Yeah, that little incident put a kink in everyone's schedules!

Greg 12-16-2008 01:35 AM

Yeah, it surely did!

Oh, right; I wasn't thinking of community lots. In real game play, I don't build too many of them. The things that look like community lots that appear in my stories are invariably occupied residential lots because I have more freedom to do things.

very useful for making a realistic place, thank you !

You can also use Mog Hughson's Decorative Parking Spaces which will randomly generate normal cars: http://www.modthesims.info/d/330492
