Desktop decoration?
I thought Greg might like a look at my current desktop background.
And others as well. Sort of, I'll show you mine. I tend to rotate backgrounds, computer nook has many walls few windows. One MS Window to be exact. Last edited by shorty943 : 12-06-2007 at 09:39 AM. |

(What a cool idea for a thread!)
Oh wow: that's a pretty one Shorty! Man, those ships are still breath takers, even after all this time... I always think about rotating my DeskTop picture, but I never get around to it- probably because I just love the one I have so much! It's an "oldie" (been using it for over a year now) but it's just so...me! Just incase anyone cares, the Artist is "Goldie" & her website is http://www.goldenwolfen.com/ I just love her stuff!

Someone is going to have to teach me how to put pretty picture in middle of writing.
I love trees, Sita. I don't love vocal "tree huggers", , just trees. Lady M. I'm pretty sure I've got some deviant art stuff somewhere, something called "interface". 3D desktops, some are really very good. Will look. Umm, No. Not Deviant Art. Try www.visualparadox.com Free 3D desktops, or pay for really good ones. Edit. Then you just have to go here, www.gtdesktop.com and download GT Desktop (a trial version): GT Ripple (free): and the help files if you feel you need to. Then see what it does to VP's 3D desktop. Oh wow. The big black and silver moon (seaoftranquility), is incredible with GT Ripple running. ZW, I like the Wolf. (visualparadox.com has a nice free 3D desktop called "howler". Nice? No. Beautiful. Yeah, that's more like it). Wolf and Tiger. My 2 favourite "off island" critters. I really like Dragons. I like to find little stashes of Dragon pictures. They were on our side you know. It's really sad. Some bad people told lies. The Dragons were the good guys. Honest. Last edited by shorty943 : 12-07-2007 at 03:29 AM. |

I believe she is the Sailing Ship "Generic". Simply artwork.
Even at high res, I can't see a nameboard on her bow. So she is imaginary. It is some piece of hand made art, is it not. Edit: However, if she had one more mast, it could be the Chilean ship "Condor". The figurehead is hard to see clearly, but it looks like a big black bird. |

The figurehead is clearly a dragon, and shields are hanging on the side. To me, that means Vikings.

I think you and I were talking about the same ship, Shorty. Rose was apparently looking at the viking ship in post #5 in this thread.

Whoops! But it's clearly more fun to compare details of two different ships!

Right! I s'pose the big ship could tow the little ship and use it for a place to store their extra luggage.
My current desktop is the title illustration from chapter 158 of Anja's story. Elven Street Magic The magical lady in the picture is the legendary Sheba. Her detractors often refer to Her as "that uppercased blonde bimbo." Her friends usually just call Her "mom." If you like this one, the good news is that you can download it in several sizes. I'll provide direct links here so that we don't have to send folks to an adult site, so now you can have Sheba on your desktop and keep your morals intact! Amusement: In the picture, it looks like Sheba is working the magic to make those symbols appear. (Clockwise from the bottom, they are Earth, Fire, Air, and Water.) What's actually happening in that scene is that She was annoyed when Her son Barry made those things pop up over Her plate at the dinner table, and She's in the process of snuffing Barry's magic. This lead Sheba to adopt a new household rule: No elven street magic at the dinner table!

Here's another of my favorite desktop illustrations.
Hoedown! It's another title illustration from Anja's story. The blonde gal in the front is Codi Jo Corley. Then behind Codi Jo to the left are Anja Vanderspeigel (the title character), Sheila Nordstrom, and Rowena Greyhouse. To the right of Codi Jo is the photographer Anne Seladdams and behind Anne is Georgina Heavenridge.

Noice. (Strine for nice).
Umm, Elven Street Magic? To quote an infamous Aussie politician. "Please Explain!". I can agree with Rose, the right kind of confusion can be fun. And the Viking ship is nice. They Knew how to build sturdy vessels. Currently my desktop is of an American style Schooner, making her way through an inter-island passage. GTDesktop. I never know what my desktop will be when I turn the machine on. It's interesting. I just pointed GTDesktop, at my ~\My Pictures folder. |

The basic idea of elven street magic is that it's simple little magic tricks that elf children would pick up on the street, like dancing lights. I had a character in one of my stories making pretty lights appear in the air, and that's what he called it. (He wasn't an elf.)
