User StartUp Cheat Question
I am trying most desperately to make a user startup cheat (Notepad) file for my game and am about to go insane!
Is there anybody out there who knows how EXACTLY the following cheats need to be typed in?? BUGJARTIMEDECAY OFF BOOLPROP PETACTIONCANCEL TRUE BOOLPROP CONTROLPETS ON (Every Website, Prima Guide & Sims ReadMe file seem to have different combinations of Capital/Lowercase letters. ARRRG! ) -ZW

Don't think case matters. But I've heard that Seasons is pickier. Make absolutely sure your filename is userstartup.cheat, not userstartup.cheat.txt

Speaking of which, what are those tricks for defining a shorthand version of a cheat code and putting multiple cheat codes on a command line?
I am growing weary of typing... boolprop allow45degreeangleofrotation true... every time I want to snap a picture for a story. It would be cool if I could just define cheat codes like "pixmodeon" and "pixmodeoff" to turn these things on and off when I need them. |

They call it making "aliases". They look kinda like this :
alias mon "moveObjects on" "Move Objects On" "Move Objects On" (cheat command, short description, long description) So if this person wanted to activate the Move Objects On cheat, they would just type in mon to do it. Here's a better link with clearer instructions & even a pre-made userstartup.cheat you can download and alter for your own purposes. (Which is what I did! ) http://www.modthesims2.com/article.php?p=1236797 -ZW

According to the tutorial at MTS2 that you linked to, there's a readme.txt file that came with the game that lists all the cheat codes. That's news to me! I'd look, but my game is running right now and I don't want to stop it to snoop around.
Besides that, it appears that the mother lode of cheat help is in this thread by HystericalParoxysm at MTS2. Last edited by Greg : 05-25-2008 at 08:13 PM. |

Yes, there's an OFB readme with all the cheats from the game and the other packs. Pets, they wussed out and only put the Pets cheats. Mine is in E:\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\Open For Business\Support\en-us, but I used a custom install path.

Yeah, the wussed out in Seasons too....
Greg, thanks for the link! It's terrific! All systems are go with my new cheat file. (Yes, it was a ".txt" thing. ) It's very nice to be able to have fully controllable pets without all that boolProp typeabunchofgoobeldygookinhere crap! I don't understand why Maxis always insists on making pets default as un-controllable in the first place.... -ZW

I assume they wanted to replicate the feel of training your RL dog. But your RL dog is very unlikely to get a job and help support you, so that argument is pretty stupid. I also hate having pets taken away because they're too stupid to eat. No RL animal is that stooopid!
At least you can click on the dog and find out where it is and what its mood is. Babies... well, if someone puts them down in a weird location, the only way to find them is to tell a parent to put the poor thing in its crib! |

Is there an advantage to using a custom install path?

Well, my C drive is dinky and my Sims files are huge... so both the program directory and My Documents have been moved to E.
