Ah, that explains the new new near-earth asteroid that the astronomers have been going on about. Pity, that.
I'm still daydreaming about The Electronic Thing, wondering what it will look like and what all it will do. I think it will be a little smaller than a pack of cigarettes without its peripherals; just a box with electronics, batteries, a few connectors, and optical interfaces; maybe also a few buttons but not too many. You'll carry it with you wherever you go and plug it in or point it at the peripherals you want to control. It will have all your stuff in it and be coded to you so that nobody else can use it. If you lose it, all someone has to do is to put it into a mailbox and it will find its way home.
