How to fix a print carriage jam on an hp 1610 printer
This is simpler than you'd think - it's due to the rubber "parkers" under the carriage's rest position being misaligned.
Solution:
You may need to re-align print heads at this point but the carriage jam will be solved. It worked for me! (Though I ignored the bit about pulling the power cord. Living dangerously, I guess.) I did have to realign the print heads as well as clean them, but it worked! I found this solution here and didn't want to lose it again. I edited it to change references to "cartridge" (the ink bottle thingies) to say "carriage" (the holder for the ink bottle thingies).

Thought: My goodness, how printers have changed since around 1975 when we were installing solenoids in old typewriters and wiring up interfaces to IMSAI 8080 computers with smoking soldering irons!

Laser printers are fairly easy to unjam as well, assuming you didn't try printing on something that melts...
Basically, you open the top, lift out the toner cartridge, then look for the "lift here" or "pull here" tabs on the next piece down. Lift or pull as appropriate, and you should be able to extract the paper from the mechanism. BTW, mother-in-law's roommate is getting a paper tray for Christmas...

Christmas? Unless I've totally lost contact with the universe, she has quite a while to wait!

Well, her birthday is in January, so I missed it, and Christmas is the next major gift giving occasion.

That remains me of a time long ago when one of my buddies gave me a card for Christmas--a 4K dynamic RAM card for the S-100 bus!

Oh, I don't know. I kinda miss the days of the 8 bit 'puter and basic. I still have 2 Ataris (400 & 130XE) that I pull out every now and again just to remind my kids what computers used to be. My 6 year old loves some of the old games. What's funny is that these games are being released again and again for the newer game systems and the kids love 'em.

I don't have a solution for that one, but a web search is likely to turn up lots of people who have had the same experience!

Weird. A new cartridge always fixed that for us.

Once upon a time, personal computers didn't have built-in clocks that kept track of the time. You had to buy a separate add-on card if you didn't want to have to set the time every time you booted up.

Sita, I looked up your printer on HP's site. It has separate print heads for your model under the supplies listing. From your desciption, it sounds like you need to replace the black one. Sometimes, you can clean the head too. It has itty-bitty holes that the ink passes through that can get clogged up. Just shaking it sometimes works too.
We have an HP plotter at work that has the separate print heads and usually just pulling one, shaking it and reinstalling gets the printer going again, at least for a short while. Eventually, we have to replace the heads. Generally, about every 6 months or so, but volume sometimes makes it sooner. |
