Mumbles through pillow...

I know that one. And PTSD.

I wish the "inflight replays" would stop sometime. Soon.

They do advise us, in these times of uncertain employment security, that we should "multi-skill" as much as we can.

When we did an EVA we used little fast boats.
Black ones. With "Bang sticks".
Hey, when you are being shot at.
Or APC's. I like them. Or Helicopters. I like them, when they get me safely home.
Never did any Sub stuff. They make me shiver.

You want help building a "Steam Powered Space Ship"?

Hey, the Saturn V rocket (after it dropped the first stage) and the Space Shuttle (after it drops its boosters) are steam-powered space ships!

Curses, foiled again. More like beaten to it.

Any remaining Hydrogen Peroxide and LOX, becomes superheated steam in the vacuum of space?

Edit.

I managed to find a conflict, or five, and got BV to actually get into holiday mode.
I duly sent my sims to "walk to a lot". Oh dear. They got lost.
Yep. They never arrived at the appointed lot. The game has lost them.
Not only that, but the 2 household members, left behind to care for pet?
Game thinks they have gone on vacation as well now.
I can't enter the original household lot, nobody home.
I enter the vacation lot, and I can wait all day, but still nobody arrives, anywhere.

Start again.

Oh dear!

Have you tried any of the usual (i.e. cheaty) things to get them back? (Like the InSim's Summoner or maybe Inge's bush???? )

Not to sound like a broken record (if anybody still remembers what a record was) but- if you've got any custom content installed- it's 99.9% likely that it's yet another case of "Custom Content Clash".

I just went through a CCC recently myself (in whick 6 of the Maxis made Night Life community lots decided they would rather crash my game than load) so I feel your pain. The problem? One freaking decrotive plant (recolor, actually) that I hadn't even used yet.

On the "plus" side, it did give me an oppertunity to weed out/re-organise my rather disorganised Downloads folder...

The Space Shuttle main engines and the Saturn S2 and S-IVB stages burn liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen, so the only thing coming out of the nozzles is steam. Very hot, very fast steam but nevertheless just steam.

On the other hand, the Space Shuttle's maneuvering rockets burn unsymmetrical dimethyl hydrazine and nitrogen textoxide. That's seriously nasty stuff. *gleep*

The first stage of the Saturn V rocket burned kerosene and LOX so it produced CO2 and steam.

I'm having a great time! This new Orion spacecraft is going to be great! I wish to goodness we could get it flying sooner so that there won't be a lapse after the Space Shuttle retires in 2010, but the days of Apollo-era funding for NASA ended even before Neil and Buzz made those famous footprints.

I've been face down in Orion since Monday, trying to get caught up with the rest of the team and at the same time get myself wired into a whole new company.

One of the interesting features of Orion's lunar missions is almost a page right out of the Artemis Data Book. When they get to the moon, they will leave Orion to take care of itself in lunar orbit and the whole crew of four will descend to the lunar surface in the lander. The incredible advances in automation since the Apollo era make this possible.

For missions to the International Space Station, Orion can carry a crew of six. It's cozy; rather reminds me of stuffing six people into a six-passenger sedan; but that's all you need when you're just going to rendezvous with a fully equipped space station.

You got the Orion position!

That is great Greg.

ZW, I fixed it. Crtl-Shift-C. DELETEALLCHARACTERS. exit.

Oh, and yes. After a more careful perusal of my \Downloads folder.
Well, several's actually.

Once more into the breech dear friends. Time for one more session before bed.

See-ya.

Oops, I guess I failed to mention that. Yup, I'm lead engineer (or somesuch kind of title) on the Orion EVA systems.

And amusingly enough, crew survival equipment. The crew survival equipment consists of a can of Spam, a water filter, and a radio. They only need to be able to hang in there for 36 hours until the car pool arrives to pick them up. Maybe we should include a harmonica and deck of cards, too.

36 hours? Does that include time for the inevitable hurricane to blow itself out?

Landing in a hurricane is fantastically unlikely but, yes, if they happened to come down in a hurricane, it would be long gone in 36 hours.

Is recovery planned for land or sea?

Or does the design allow for both?

I seem to recall in the 60s they could always opt for Atlantic or Pacific depending on weather.

The normal landing is on land but the spacecraft has to be designed for both.

I don't know how big Orion's landing footprint will be, but it ought to be similar to Apollo. I was in a meeting with Dick Gordon (Apollo 12 CM pilot) this week, where he mentioned that after entry interface Apollo's landing footprint was 1400 miles long by 400 wide.
If I recall correctly.

Wow, you space guys run it close into the wind. 36 Hrs? Spam?

No, not on my space ship. No spam. Bully Beef yes, but no spam.
Tins of good old chipped corned beef, yep.
At sea, 21 days survival rations, for 21 men, per life raft. That's the rules.

In the middle of the bloody ocean, and survival rations are tins and tins of salted beef.
Ahh, the good old days.

Swanning around in the Pacific, looking up to find Apollo coming home.

1400 x 400 miles. No worries mate. We can build that runway.
We'll just bulldoze a track beside the launcher.
We can send em up, and we can bring em home.
