Question Door will not auto close

I've noticed that some doors my sims use will not auto-close after they have past thru....like the front door to the home. There seems to be no option to instruct them to close the door.

Also, why do my sims put the newspaper/coffee cup/mail on the floor when there is a perfectly good table right next to them. Is there a way to correct this stupid action. I have installed hacks to auto-off tv and auto-on/off lights that work much much better then original program.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank You.

I have seen that same problem many times but don't have a good solution for it. I think it might happen if the sim's travel plan gets changed when it includes going through a door.

The only solution I've found so far is to go into Buy mode, turn "move_objects on" so I can delete the stuck door, and replace it. Obviously this is not an optimum fix.

I've noticed if there's an overhead light fixture in the path of the door, it won't auto close.

Overhead lights are a major contributer to "Open Door Syndrome", though it's been my experience that if 2 doors are directly in line with each other (as in if you walked in/out one door & kept going strait for a few tiles you would walk right in/out the other door) this seems to cause ODS too. A perfect example would be the Grunt family house in Strangetown; that friggen front door is frozen open from almost the moment you enter the lot! (Note the front & back doors are directly in line with each other, which seems to be the main factor as- at least for me- the problem wasn't cured by just deleting the door & moving the overhead lights.)

I just installed a mod called "DoorJamFix" that claims it takes care of the object/overhead light interference but can't get a direct link for you right now as MTS2 (where I am 99.9% sure I found it) is being putzy for me right now.

Aha! That's the first I've heard of lights and in-line doors being a cause of the open-door syndrome. I'll have to check any houses where that happens.

I'd heard of the lights, but not remembered in time to post it. Hadn't heard of the inline doors tho...

Actually, it happened for me at the front door of Pearl Manor. I looked about, replaced the door, then looked more...Then I noticed the light. I moved it and voila!

Hmm... I do tend to put lights right next to windows and doors, on the theory that at night the light will do the job that sunlight was doing in the daytime. There could be considerable causility at play here!

You need to leave at least one empty tile between doors and pendant lights in particular. Another item that can cause a door to stick open is the toilet, where the sims knees can keep the door open.

So unless your Sim is an exhibitionist, don't aim your toilet at the door?

I'm getting the impression that basically we need to keep the squares on either side of the door completely clear.

Sorry! I know "non-relevant content" posts are often frowned upon, but the image that I now have burned in my mind is disturbingly priceless!

Aw, that only applies in story threads or maybe a thread where someone is actively trying to figure out how to fix something. Most the time I think it's pretty much hopeless to keep a thread on topic around here!

(Thread hijacking does seem to be a pastime around here!)

Just wanted to let people know that there is a mod that fixes most cases of "Open Door Syndrome" available call DoorJamFix. To quote the Read Me, it fixes the issue where doors could stuck "in use" by lights or stair endtiles. Doors will now properly close and become not-in-use.

The good news is it works. (I have it so I know.)

The bad news is it's not from MTS2, but The Site That Shall Remain Nameless.

On the not-quite-so-bad-news front, you don't actually have to go to "That Site" to get it (or any of "That Site's" mods, actually) as there is a page that just hosts all "That Site's" mods/hacks that is totally separate from "That Site's" icky, shark infested forums.

Since links regarding "That Site" are strictly forbidden on Sun Sims forums, interested parties can either PM me for the directory link or do their own detective work, if they don't already have the link stashed away in a dark corner of their PC.

Or... you could just move the ceiling light.

However, that might involve some major remodelling to make the room a tile or two larger...

Hmm... off hand, I can't think of any situations where I would have to do that except for the 1x3 bathrooms.

Actually there are several times the DoorJamFix has proved useful- at least to me.

It's not just hanging lights that cause the problem but also the top/bottom squares of staircases, & it isn't always so easy to move a staircase just to make a stupid door happy!
