I'm still trying to find the reference to irons. If I recall correctly, he was talking about something bad happening when you mess up trying to turn on a windward tack.
I'm sure the horse is a piece of equipment but there's no clue what it is or what it does.

Not a real lot can go wrong with a tacked turn, unless you lose momentum in being too slow and pierce the eye. Get stuck with equal wind down each side and can't turn.
The orders are the same square rig or fore and after. "Stand by to tack" then "helm's alee". Nothing to it. But, you only tack through a fore quartered wind. With the wind abaft the beam, a fore and after is jibed to the other tack, a square rigger is worn around. The order "Jibe Ho" is known in yacht clubs all over the world. Even the order "Stand by to ware ship", gives an idea of the difference in the work involved in hauling massive square sail sets, through the wind by hand to pull the ship around under her sails, to the next tack. The rudder alone just won't do it. So the sails are kept FAB, full and by, (full of wind and steered by the wind direction) while the ships tail is literally winched across the winds face. Then it's all straightened up again and we sail on, FAB. It can go all wrong in a second. A little aside here. SOB, is not as "the Duke" put it, a son of a bitch, but, instead it is a sacred trust. It is in every ships or boats log. It is in every airliner log. It is even in a road coach log. SOB is a number, it varies, and it stands for the "Souls On Board", for whom to God we are responsible. Just as well we are all professionals. |

Uhuh. Too slow, pierced the wind's eye, and got bogged.
Square sails "flat aback", you are now in reverse gear with no speed to steer. You've broached on the curl, and you are going onto your beam ends, and there ain't a thing in the world but hope for your life, and it feels very very bad right now. In a tacking maneuver. The easy one. In this modern day. That captain, can stall an automatic automobile. OK, our lad Jack and Stevie boy got a little unruly at something to do with a certain tea party? History can be fun sometimes. |

No, the tea party was long before 1812.

Oops, sorry.
Bloody, Disney History and Fess Parker movies again. I keep sort of forgetting, you folks, is about 100 and a handful of years older. In the modern era, that is. In first nation stuff, umm, we forget just how long we've been here. But, it's been a while. It ain't easy when your math was as advanced as 1, 2, 3, many, many many, etc. Truth. |

Jack Aubrey felt really bad about that even though what he (in his much smaller ship) did to the Dutchman is exactly what they were trying to do to him. If the Dutchman had been able to knock out a mast on Aubrey's ship in calmer weather, she could have easily boarded and taken the prize, but nope; he was out for blood, and it cost him dearly.

I think it's: "Don't mess with the title character."

That's pretty neat! Can you actually build a ship with the stuff that comes with Bon Voyage?

Someone brave enough to install BV will have to answer that one. Or I'll have to play the nephew's copy at the mother-in-law's house.

Well darn. Being led into temptation ain't no fun if I don't know whether or not I'm really being tempted!

Shorty or Zirconia will be here soon to tell you if you're tempted or not.

There's a playable shipwreck in BV and a shipwreck neighborhood decoration. I've never actually put the wreck on a home lot, so I'm not sure if it works the same as on a community lot. I'll have to give it a try and get back to you.

Ah, so there's an already-built ship but you can't build a ship. Still, it's a start!

True, it's a start. You can walk the plank, climb the crows nest, fence with cutlass, man the wheel, raise the jolly Roger, explore the pirate ship and plunder the captain's cabin.
There's a chance that you'll run into the captain's ghost during your plundering, and if you get your daily relationship up to 7 you can have him teach you to sing a sea chantey. Which your sims will then sing incessantly, teaching others, until you are forced to bang your head loudly on your computer desk. Another one of those EAxis OCD behaviors.

Lol, there's a couple different patches for excessive sea chanty chanting. One's on InTeen.
