Default So what about this Chinese moon photo?

http://science.slashdot.org/article....41209&from=rss

IS it doctored? and if so, why move a crater? This is reminiscent of 2001....

Did they really go there at all?

The explanation that the photo suffers from bad stitching at the seams makes perfect sense to me. It's really really hard to stitch photos together and the software doesn't always get it right.

Of course Chinese politics comes into this. The photo is obviously the space equivalent of a Hollywood rush, but the politicians decided to treat it as the final product.

I don't know of any real reason to doubt that the Chinese moon probe made it there.

You think only the Chinese are like that?

We just had a change of government here. Now our Labour politicians are all rabbiting about "controlling the climate".

I can't wait to see the remote control they build.

Of course not, they're just inexperienced in space travel (or indeed publicizing anything) and overanxious to keep their success in the public eye.

Are they related to "New Labour" in Britain?
Have you seen "V for Vendetta"?

Hmm, Sim City with disaster-mode swithced on? (I was always amazed how the fire stations were usually among the first to go.)

Is "New Labour" a new party or a slogan for the old Labour party?

"New Labour" is what they've been calling the British Labour Party since Tony Blair took over the leadership before he was ever prime minister. They're no longer very new, they've also passed one new law for every day they've been in government. That's a heck of a lot of new laws over the course of 10-11 years.

Maybe the next law that pass should be one requiring them to repeal one law for every new one they pass.

The whole point about "New Labour" is that they are completely unrelated to "Old Labour" and are actually much closer to the Conservative party (similar to US Republicans) and New Labour, in many British and particularly in union circles, tends to be pronounced with a sneer or a sob.
They rescinded the good labour (=industrial relations) laws here; it is now completely illegal to hold an unofficial strike here, for instance, and employee's rights have been cut right down to the bone; and they continued the work of The Thatcher by cutting benefits and reducing (in real terms) the funding for the National Health Service).
It's an example of Doublethink (Huxley). Doesn't matter what you do but if you confuse the electorate and keep telling them it is for their own good they will accept it. While you bathe in caviar.

(It was right about here that the discussion in this topic pushed my tolerance for politicking past its limit. Folks, if you want to do politics, please do it on a political site.)

I know, I thought I would get slapped down for politics. But the question was asked. By you.

Your answer does show some political bias but the real problem was that after that others used that as an excuse to igore the site's published rules about such things. I should have thought that it would be too tempting if I asked a simple question about what Labour Party we were talking about.

If you rephrase the above to: "but the real problem was that after that others got carried away and forgot the site's published rules about such things." then it would be 100% accurate. At least in my case.

To ignore the site rules would have required thinking about them.

Hm, making fun of things political, is a no no. Got it.

Oh dear, that just about finishes Aussie comedy.
Our pollies are hilarious.

As for the Chinese Lunar probe?
They must have made it, they sent back the polaroids, didn't they.
