SimPE Is Now BV & TS Compatible!!!!
Yipee!
For those of you (& me, eventually) who use SimPE & have Bon Voyage and/or Teen Style installed, the wait is finally over! Due to RL interference, it's Numenor & not Quaxi that is (currently) releasing the latest SimPE so you won't find it on the normal SimPE update page & need to go to the following link instead: http://simpeforum.ambertation.de/sim...64-23-dec-2007 (Now if I can just get me friggen game back in order again...)

Yay!
B'b'but... when the heck did Teen Style come out? It appeared in my Christmas stocking, but I've never heard of it before!

Oh goodie! Now I can finally choose to send my Simcity project families on vacation! I liked a lot of features in BV but I rely a lot on SimPE to reconstruct the families...now I can dust my copy off and reinstall!

Cool! I just got all my orphans resolved!
Greg, we've been so busy complaining about BV that Teen Style got overlooked. |

The big question: Is it safe to install Teen Style or does it have some wretched malware bundled with it?

Greg: Miros is right; Teen Style ( a "Stuff" Pack released in early November) was barely noticed by many players, what with all the Bon Voyage drama going on.
Now that the Bon Voyage troubles have been happily dealt with, it's worth noting that Teen Style holds the same potential for disaster, also known as SecuROM. To paraphrase the installation manual for the Teen Style SP: Players who currently have the Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage &/or Free Time EPs installed will use those EPs to play their games after adding the Teen Style SP. Players who currently have the University, NightLife, Open For Business EPs &/or the Happy Holiday, Family Fun, Glamour Life, Celebrations or H&M Fashions SPs (without any of the Pets-or higher EPs) will use Teen Style to play their game!!!! Since Teen Style contains the dreaded SecuROM, it would be well worth the effort for all you pre-Pets players (like you, Greg!) to grab yourself a copy of the FarLight NoCD exe for Teen Style & use it, or risk watching your PC explode in a BFBVFS. Just FYI...

*heavy sigh*

Well sure...but since using a No CD exe is so simple to do I (for one) am not letting SecuROM scare me away from a series of games that I am gleefully enjoying, despite the best efforts of EA/Maxis to thwart that enjoyment.
It's important to remember that a No CD crack is not the same thing as an illegal copy! You have to have the actual disk to install the game before swapping to the cracked exe file. Still, it feels disturbingly good to think that I am "sticking it" to those crazy programmers in some small (but legal) way...

Another interesting point. Oblivion and other games are also contaminated with SecuROM, and have no notice about it on the package.
So, even if you replace your executable for BV, you may still have to deal with SecuROM... |

Yeah...to be honest, SecureROM has been around for a while as a copy-protection tool on many games. I've seen it before on other games. I'm still not quite sure why all the hoopla regarding it and Sims (unless EA found a way to screw it up as much as they like to screw the actual game up)...maybe it's because I regularly use NO-CD cracks to avoid damaging my disks from swapping them in and out.

I'm not willing to risk installing any software that changes the core operating system or interferes with the operation of other programs. That's the hoopla about SecuROM.
So what it boils down to is that Electronic Arts has once again lost my trust; this time permanently. I'll return Teen Style to the store with the complaint that it contains invasive malware and be shut of EA for good.

Nephew was willing to wait for me to install the no-cd crack for Sims 2/BV before he played... but he really wanted to play Oblivion, and I had to help him bypass the launcher, which does exactly and precisely nothing, including launching the game, under Vista... so he can just do the same with BV.

Hold on there. Whaoh up a yard. Has anyone seen my selfsim? I sent old Greybeard on a nice relaxing holiday. No worries, he arrived booked in. I sent him on a walk to a community lot. Game changes to the lot, waiting, waiting. No Greybeard. Back to the resort, he pops up right there in the foyer. Okay, take taxi to com lot. Oh, bugger. Whacked in the face with a fish. The lot opened up in build mode. Back out and back to the resort lot. There is Greybeard, still standing waiting at the pay phone for taxi. Try again, watch this time. Taxi comes along, blink taxi gone, sim standing waiting for taxi. At the moment the transport system at the resort is in total chaos. The shuttle bus works fine, but the rest is in "what the?" land. Yet, end the vacation, once out and back at the normal "hood", all is OK again. Isn't that an interesting thing. But as long as they don't go on holiday, no probs. |

Dang. I've heard about that problem. Don't remember if it's SecuROM (which shouldn't affect you) or the cracked executable. My sympathies!

Hmmmm.
Very strange. Most everything else I'm reading indicates that the patched (& no-cd-exe enabled) Bon Voyage is working just peachy keen for people. Are you using the Pedestrian Sign or the "Self Interaction" to initiate the Walk-To-Lot action? Also just read where constant use of that "testingcheat" has been known to prevent taxis from working correctly. (I knew that thing was too scary to leave on all the time!) Broken record time: check you custom content, check your custom content... I'm still gonna give it a go though...just as soon as I make backups! Anyway, that's why we have test hoods!

Rosie. It was even flakier before the No-CD crack.
ZW, umm. Pedestrian Sign? Self Interaction? Hmm, apparently not. Note to self, click more things. Boolprop, Startup Cheat file, DANGER WILL ROBINSON, DANGER. And that last bit confuses me. Do you want me to break the world record for custom content folder size? Oh, I get it. Nag, nag, nag ,nag, custom content nag And I thought it was all going so swimmingly too. At least this year I will have more time to goof off. This year, I do NOT drop my all, and run to the assistance of others, oh, who am I kidding. The girlfriend of a friend, blew his car up 3 days after Christmas, so mine is on the back burner again already this year pushed to the back of the shed again. But, I drive his back out of the shed tomorrow. All fixed. Again. That's it. I'm going north this winter. Only a few hours drive. Desert mountain country, quiet, peaceful country. |
