How to make new default Townies and Dormies
After tidying your game so you don't get the ugly Maxis Townies anymore... wouldn't it be nice to have a pool of attractive premade Townies and Dormies to automatically place in each new hood?
Yes, you can have this! 1) Open up My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Neighborhoods and drag your N001 folder to a safe place, like your Desktop or the top of your My Documents folder. Leave the Neighborhoods folder open. 2) Start the game and create a new neighborhood. 3) Alt-Tab out to make sure the new 'hood is N001. Leave the Neighborhoods folder open and switch back to the game. 4) Make some Sims and move them onto a lot with Inge Jones' "Make Me A Townie" bush. Use the bush. 5) Add a campus. Make some YA Sims and move them onto a lot with Inge Jones' "Make Me A Townie" bush. Use the bush. 6) Quit the game. 7) Open up Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\UserData\Neighborhoods. 8) Drag the new N001 folder from My Documents/.../Neighborhoods to Program Files/.../Neighborhoods. 9) Drag your original N001 folder back to My Documents/.../Neighborhoods. This only works for Townies and Dormies so far. I'm still experimenting with a "standard adoption pool" for puppies and kittens. |

Not to sound like a moron but will this in anyway screw up the Pleasantview hood? (Yes, I am still playing with the Maxis-made hoods...)

Nope, that's why you drag out your N001 as the first step, and drag it back as the last step!

If I'm reading this right, the trick is to replace Program Files/.../N001 with the version you have modified, and the townie pool from that neighborhood becomes the pool. Is that right?

Yep! I think it has to be N001, because I've had no luck replacing P001 with N001... I could experiment with different hoods; it might give me a clue to replacing the strays and adoption pool...

P001 is the folder with the Maxis made strays, runaway pets, and pet adoption pool.

Oh! Now I get it! I didn't know it because I've never had it.

Very true! Mine is all nicely zipped up because I believe in capital punishment for idjits that dump unwanted pets, which is what the Maxis strays are.
However, my Sims constantly want puppies and kittens, not the general "pet," and they can't get puppies and kittens at the pet store... so I need an adoption pool. Although breeding them is easy, it's tedious to do in every stinking 'hood, so I decided to try to make my own default adoption pool. |

If a sim's cat has kittens can you give them to your neighbors?

Yep. Give or sell to neighbors (especially if you train them) or give to the Adoption Service to sell to other Sims. And the puppies and kittens have cuteness factor!
This is Collis, one of my adoptable kittens: I think one of the puppies was in the food bowl, but I didn't get a picture... |

Ah, so I take it that the Adoption Service is the sim bin for furry things.

More like the "adoption pool"... the abused and neglected furry things go there too, to be placed in better homes, just like the abused and neglected children!

Oh! If a teen runs away from home, does it end up in the sim bin?

Not sure, let me find my "special family" list...
Hm, pets have both an Orphan Pets family and a Stray family... Humans only have an Orphan family. Since teens aren't adoptable, I guess they'd become emancipated minors and go to the Sim Bin. Will have to try this! |

I was thinking of trying it, too. I've never had a teen run away but I suspect aspiration failure would do it.
